Taking Control: How one healthcare system transitioned its Helicopter Emergency Medical Services program to uphold its core values
Helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) has grown to become an essential part of the U.S. healthcare system, with an estimated 300,000 medical helicopter flights occurring annually nationwide.
This paper explores the example of one healthcare system’s transition in its HEMS delivery model from a Traditional Delivery Model (TDM) to an Alternative Delivery Model (ADM) — and back to a Traditional Delivery Model (TDM), demonstrating how healthcare systems can use traditional delivery models to maximize outreach while maintaining commitment to organizational mission and values.
